Work Location: Auburn Hills, Michigan (Onsite) Contract: 12+ Months Description: We are seeking an experienced Fastener Application Engineer to provide onsite technical support for fastener joint design, validation, testing, and problem resolution. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of fastener joint design and validation, torque development, fastener materials, coatings, and assembly processes. Required Skills: (Must have) Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline. Minimum of three to five years of experience in fastener engineering, fastener joint design, component engineering, or a related technical role. Strong knowledge of fastener materials, coatings, joint design principles, torque development, testing methods, and installation techniques. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, joint cross-sections, material specifications, test data, and applicable technical standards. Strong analytical, problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and provide effective onsite technical support. Optional Skills: (Good to Have) Experience supporting the PRS commodity, particularly Powertrain and Engine Systems applications. Automotive product-development, launch, or Plant issue resolution experience, including safety and critical fastener joint applications. Familiarity with engineering work order, product data, change management, and test reporting systems; Lean or Six Sigma knowledge is a plus. Key Responsibilities: Provide technical expertise for fastener applications throughout product design, validation, and issue resolution. Conduct joint reviews and recommend appropriate fasteners, torque specifications, testing requirements, and design improvements. Determine appropriate validation methods, including torque-to-failure, torque-to-yield, torque-tension, clamp-load, ultrasonic, and other applicable fastener tests. Develop and evaluate tightening strategies, including dynamic torque, residual torque, minimum audit torque, torque-angle, and angle-controlled applications. Review fastener work orders, coordinate laboratory testing, analyze results, and provide documented technical recommendations. Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, suppliers, and other cross-functional teams. Support vehicle development, launch activities, and technical investigation of fastener-related Plant issues and failures. Interpret engineering drawings, material specifications, and applicable fastener standards. Prepare technical reports and support continuous improvement of fastener engineering processes.
