Job Summary The Lighting/Shading Systems Engineer is responsible for the management and execution of engineering design reviews for integrated lighting and automated shading systems across the client portfolio. This role is central to the "Integrated Architecture" strategy, ensuring that lighting (Acuity nLight) and automated shading (Mecho) systems are not standalone silos but are seamlessly integrated via BACnet/IP and ECLYPSE controllers to the building's central automation backbone. The Engineer works with a team of engineers and contractors to ensure implementation of best practices and adherence to client standards in support of projects ranging from tenant improvements to large-scale infrastructure and new construction. Responsibilities: Design and Engineering: Conduct design reviews for electrical and lighting controls drawings to ensure lighting and shading controls comply with relevant standards and stakeholder expectations. Perform technical reviews of Integrated Sequences of Operation (SOO), specifically focusing on nLight ECLYPSE logic, occupancy/daylight sensor mapping, and nLight-to-Shade communication protocols. Conduct field inspections throughout project implementation to verify sensor placement and controller accessibility, proactively identifying implementation risks such as "panel-in-ceiling" accessibility issues. Coordinate with project teams and represent the client on the project team to ensure stakeholder requirements are appropriately addressed and all issues are effectively resolved via the Issues & Resolutions (I&R) Log. Collaborate with vendors to ensure project requirements are met and systems are "Network Ready." Project Management: Provide regular progress updates and reports regarding system readiness and integration milestones. Ensure internal records and project databases are verified via ongoing quality assurance. Prepare and present reporting to stakeholders to drive effective architectural and energy-saving solutions. Implementation and Commissioning: Oversee the installation and configuration of nLight gateways, ECLYPSE controllers, and shading motor interfaces. Develop and execute comprehensive commissioning plans for glare control, automated dimming, and override logic. Troubleshoot and resolve system integration issues during commissioning and initial operation. Perform system integration audits to transition new control systems onto in-operations servers and validate BACnet point mapping consistency. Qualifications required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related facilities engineering field. Proactively identify process deficiencies in the lighting-shading integration workflow, and develop and implement improvements. (Associates degree with additional relevant experience may be considered.) 2-5 years of experience in facilities lighting and shading control systems. Deep expertise in Acuity nLight platforms, including ECLYPSE controllers and BACnet/IP integration. Athena is now building its next-generation engine across multiple engines and the Engine Front End team is responsible for the query lifecycle management and routing queries to the right engine with the optimal configuration. Amazon Athena is an interactive query service that simplifies data analysis in Amazon S3 using standard SQL. Athena is serverless, so there is no infrastructure to set up or manage. Our customers use Athena to process logs, perform data analytics, and run interactive queries and get started quickly. Keep the submission path fast and reliable while the engine underneath it changes. Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering, supply chain, quality, and production. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical detail into clear documentation and decisions for varied audiences. Preferred: Background in energy, aerospace, or defense hardware programs. Familiarity with high-pressure gas systems and relevant codes and standards (NFPA 2, ASME B31.3, CGA). Experience supporting hazard analyses (HAZOP, FMEA). Experience scaling manufacturing at an early-stage or low-rate-initial-production. Familiarity with defense procurement and export control considerations (ITAR/EAR, MTCR) as they relate to production planning. Direct experience with hydrogen generation/electrolyzer technology. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer performing documentation, data entry, and configuration management tasks. Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or reaching to inspect components, sub-assemblies, or equipment. Sufficient visual acuity to read engineering drawings, P&IDs, system schematics, and detailed technical documentation, both on screen and in print. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with cross-functional teams in person and remotely. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to noise, moving machinery, and high-pressure gas systems, requiring adherence to all safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Ability to wear required PPE (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, closed-toe/safety footwear) when on the production floor or in testing areas. May occasionally be required to work extended hours to meet project deadlines or support production schedules.
