Thrive Foods, part of Thrive Market's mission-driven, membership-based e-commerce platform, is seeking an Automation Engineer to drive efficiency and reliability in our retail fulfillment operations. In this role, you'll design, program, and maintain PLC-based systems, robotics, conveyors, and related controls that power our distribution and packaging workflows. Partnering with operations, engineering, and data teams, you'll optimize throughput, reduce downtime, and enhance safety while supporting new launches and continuous improvement projects. Responsibilities
- Design, program, and maintain automation systems for Thrive Foods' retail operations and fulfillment centers
- Integrate PLCs, sensors, robotics, and conveyor systems to optimize warehouse and packaging workflows
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve throughput, accuracy, and equipment uptime
- Develop and maintain documentation, drawings, and standard operating procedures for automated systems
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement root-cause fixes
- Support new facility launches, retrofits, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure automation solutions meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards
- Work with data and SCADA systems to track KPIs and drive process optimization
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors on installation, commissioning, and upgrades
- Train operations and maintenance teams on use and care of automated equipment
Required Skills
- PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
- SCADA/HMI configuration and support
- Industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus)
- Robotics integration and motion control
- Electrical design and reading schematics
- Industrial control systems troubleshooting
- Data analysis and KPI monitoring for automated systems
- CAD tools for layouts and panel design
- Safety system design (lockout/tagout, interlocks, guarding)
- Experience with warehouse or fulfillment center automation (conveyors, sorters, AS/RS)
