Energy is the binding constraint on human progress. Solar and storage are the lowest cost sources of new generation, but the conventional project delivery model has not changed in 30 years and deployment cannot keep pace with demand. Planted is turning power plants from projects into products. Our software turns raw land into a build-ready power plant in minutes instead of months. Our hardware delivers twice the energy on every acre. Our robots put steel in the ground so output scales with production lines instead of headcount. We're looking for a technical leader to build and scale the software organization at the center of that transition - from the autonomy stack running on our robots to the AI systems that will make deployment even faster. You will own the architecture, roadmap, and team driving Planted's next phase of growth. We don't wait for abundance. We build it. About The Role Software is both the brains of our machines and the connective tissue of Planted operations. You will lead and grow a software organization spanning three domains: autonomous robotic vehicle software, our suite of web-based power plant design, build, and operate tools, and an emerging portfolio of AI agents that automate engineering, estimation, and operations workflows. We are looking for a pragmatic technical leader with a track record of building high-performing, multi-disciplinary software teams. You must be deep enough technically to drive key architectural decisions across the vertically integrated platform, and strategic enough to drive and execute on the product roadmap. You have systems literacy (e.g., how data moves from a robot's camera into an ML pipeline) and prioritize delivery mechanics over heavy-handed project management. Our robots are building projects in the field today and our design software is in front of customers. Your mandate is to scale the product and the team to support our current 10x year over year growth in megawatts deployed. The Team: You will join a group at the intersection of deep tech and massive physical infrastructure. Our engineering core brings robotics and automation DNA from SpaceX and Tesla, working directly alongside veteran energy developers. We are led by repeat founders with a successful prior exit (Cogenra to SunPower). Planted is backed by leading investors in energy and Physical AI, including Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Khosla Ventures, and Piva Capital. The annual salary range for this full-time position is $275,000-$325,000 plus a meaningful equity stake and benefits. Pay within the range is based on candidate experience, job-specific skills, and education. The target experience for the position is 10-15+ years. We work together in person 5 days/week at our HQ in Oakland, CA. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Organizational Leadership & Talent Development: Build, scale, and mentor a high-performing, multi-level software organization, including direct management of engineering managers, principal engineers, and system architects. Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous growth. Recruit and retain top-tier software talent across cloud, spatial/CAD, embedded, and robotics domains while allowing technical experts to own the architecture. Strategic Execution & Stakeholder Management : Own the software roadmap and drive the predictable, on-time delivery of complex, multi-system software projects across multiple products. Set clear expectations, communicate progress, and align software deliverables. Collaborate seamlessly with the Commercial team, Hardware Engineering, and Project Operations. Make the build-vs-buy, stack, and platform decisions that will hold up at 100x scale. Software Product Suite Ownership: Lead development across our core platforms: Power Planter (automated layout, engineering, and costing), Build View (autonomous fleet management, field deployment, and QA/QC), and Operate View (inspection, operations, and maintenance tools for large-scale solar plants). Autonomous Robotic Vehicle Platforms: Lead the engineering teams deploying the full software stack across our autonomous field machine fleet (fleet logic, behavior trees, and path planning, modern and classical controls, ROS2, etc.). Data Flywheel: We operate our field machines like modern manufacturing lines. You will own the telemetry and data infrastructure that monitors production with statistical process control and turns every installation into training data for better models and improved machine productivity. AI Systems: Build the team and roadmap for AI agents that automate design, estimation, project delivery, and operations workflows, grounded in the data our robots and projects generate. QUALIFICATIONS 10 to 15+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading engineering teams (senior ICs and managers) shipping production systems. Deep expertise in full stack software development involving hardware and software integration like robotics, IoT, or industrial automation. Track record shipping robotics, autonomous vehicles, or hardtech software into the field at scale-with a strong focus on fleet reliability, continuous testing, and real-time observability. Broad leadership capability across platform/full-stack teams, cloud infrastructure, data systems, or applied AI/ML groups outside your core specialty. Systems architecture judgment with strong understanding of how technologies work together (e.g., middleware, pub/sub architectures, web services, and ML pipelines). You do not need to write the C++ on the robot, but you must understand edge compute, latency, and hardware-in-the-loop testing. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Field robotics : Experience in construction, agriculture, mining, defense, logistics, or autonomous vehicles operating off-pavement (e.g., Waymo, Cruise, Bedrock Automation). DevOps & Delivery: Strong understanding of modern software deployment and containerization (Docker). Experience with CI/CD, release pipelines, and edge deployment strategies, focusing on how code reliably gets to the machine. Agentic and AI-Augmented Software Engineering: Experience building, rebuilding, and managing AI-integrated software development platforms and teams. Robotics & Controls: Familiarity with the complexities of deploying field-robotics software (e.g., ROS2, vehicle navigation, and autonomy stacks). You understand the unique delivery challenges of robotics compared to traditional software. Perception & Sensing: Experience with LiDAR, stereoscopic/IR cameras, object detection, spatial mapping, and SLAM in dynamic outdoor environments. Strong understanding of middleware, pub/sub architectures alongside web services, backend technologies, and ML pipelines. Spatial / CAD Expertise: Deep understanding of software platforms working with geospatial data (GIS, CAD engines, 3D modeling, or automated parametric design). Rechat is the operating system for real estate. Marketing, CRM, transactions, listings and AI in a single product, replacing the disconnected stack of tools most agents are forced to stitch together. Some of the largest brokerages and networks in North America run their business on us, and tens of thousands of agents use Rechat every week. We have spent the last two years rebuilding the product to be AI-native, and we are growing quickly. REMOTE (Work may be performed anywhere) Every brokerage leader we talk to knows AI should change how their business runs. Almost none of them know where to start, and the generic tools they have tried don't fit how a brokerage actually works. You are here to close that gap, fast and over and over again. You will get on calls with brokerage executives and managers, figure out what they actually need (which is often not what they first ask for), and turn it into working software on Rechat's platform. Manager dashboards, business trackers, listing tools, workflows, and AI agents that do real work in the background: watching deals, summarizing activity, flagging risk, taking action. Speed is the job. With AI, a good idea can go from a client call to a working prototype in a morning and to production in days. We have already done it. We need someone who can do that every week, across many clients, and keep the quality high while they do it. You will write most of your code with AI, and you will ship a lot of it. You own what you build, end to end: the call, the spec, the prototype, the launch, and the fix when something breaks. Some of what you build will be for one brokerage. The best of it will become part of Rechat for everyone. This is a new function for us and you will help define how it works. What You'll Own: Discovery. Running calls with brokerage leaders, asking the questions that get past the first request to the real problem, and writing it down as a clear spec. Rapid prototyping. Turning a spec into something a client can react to in days, not weeks, using AI to do most of the building. Shipping. Taking prototypes to production on Rechat's APIs, many of them, at a fast pace. AI agents. Building features where AI acts on its own: what triggers it, what data and tools it uses, what it does, and what happens when it gets something wrong. Everything after launch. Debugging and supporting what you ship. If it breaks, you fix it. Productizing. Spotting when three brokerages are asking for the same thing, and building it once so every client can use it. Adoption. Making sure what you built actually gets used. An app nobody opens is a failed project, however clean the code is. Who You Are: You are an engineer and a builder who is good at client facing roles as well. The kind of person who has shipped side projects on a weekend, hacked together a tool their team ended up relying on, and gets restless when something takes a month that could take a day. You are not the engineer who wants to spend three weeks perfecting an architecture. You are also not someone who only prompts and hopes. You understand code well enough to read what AI writes, catch what is wrong, and stand behind it in production. Our Stack: Node.js, TypeScript, React and PostgreSQL Education/Experience: Be prepared to walk us through each of these in detail. 3 to 5 years as a full-stack software engineer , with things in production that real people used. Strong in Node.js and TypeScript. Comfortable across the stack: APIs, data, frontend, and getting something deployed. You build with AI every day and it has made you dramatically faster. You can show us something you built in days that would once have taken weeks. You have worked directly with customers or non-technical people to turn a vague need into something shipped. You have debugged and supported something after launch , not just handed it off Strongly Preffered: You have built an AI agent. By that we mean something where an LLM calls tools or APIs and takes action on its own, and you had to deal with it being wrong. Not a chatbot wrapper. Tell us what it did, how you knew whether it was working, and what you changed when it wasn't. Real estate or proptech experience. You know the difference between a listing and an off-market, an offer and a contract, and how a brokerage actually makes money. You won't need this explained on a client call. How You Work: Strong product sense. You care whether people actually use what you built. You put love into what you build and pay attention to all the details. You ask 'what decision does this help someone make?' before you ask 'what should it look like? You would rather ship ten useful things than perfect oneYou can say no to a client, explain why, and offer something better You use AI tools daily and know when not to trust them Excellent spoken and written English. You are comfortable leading a call with a CEO You are hands-on and resourceful. When you are stuck, you find a way Probably not the right fit: You prefer to perfect one thing over shipping many You have never talked directly to a customer and prefer to receive finished specs You don't use AI heavily in how you build today You need detailed requirements and clean processes to be effective. You will create them here You want to manage a team soon. This is an individual contributor role Why You'll Love Working Here: Competitive compensation and benefits Fully remote with flexible work/life balance A diverse, inclusive, and highly collaborative culture Meaningful work with a product used by real professionals every day Flexible Paid Time Off We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. All employment decisions are made without regard to legally protected characteristics. Background and reference checks required.

Headquartered in San Diego, Mulligan Funding serves as a leading provider of working capital (Up to $5M) to the small and medium-sized businesses that fuel our country. Since 2008, we have prided ourselves on our collaborative, innovative, and customer-focused approach. Enjoying a period of unprecedented growth, driven by the combination of cutting-edge technology, human touch, and unwavering integrity, we are looking to add to our people first culture, with highly motivated and results-oriented professionals, to push the limits of what's possible while creating value for all of our partners. At Mulligan, we are replacing legacy small business lending with fast, intelligent, AI-driven decisioning. Backed by 18 years of proprietary credit data and deep risk expertise, we have the institutional knowledge and technical foundation that competitors simply can't match. We are looking for builders who want to be right at the center of this work. We've already moved past the experimental phase. Production-grade AI agents are actively running in our credit and underwriting workflows today, driving clear results in speed, consistency, and decision quality. Now, we are expanding that AI-first approach across Sales, Customer Lifecycle, Finance, and Capital Markets. We are hiring an AI Product Manager to embed directly inside one of our core AI initiatives. In this hands-on role, you will lead discovery and design for active AI projects, work shoulder-to-shoulder with business teams, and manage execution alongside specialist engineering partners. We need someone who thrives in ambiguous environments and can take a messy problem and turn it into a clear design. Your main focus on day one will be sitting with functional experts, mapping out how their daily workflows operate, and redesigning them from scratch using modern AI tools. Reporting to the AI Product Director, you will operate with high day-to-day autonomy inside your pod. This position is ideal for an early-career product manager looking to build deep AI expertise fast and grow alongside our expanding team. Current State Discovery & Process Intelligence Deep-Dive SME Discovery: Lead structured discovery sessions with functional Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to map the current process in full - every step, decision point, pain point, exception case, volume estimate, and cycle time. The goal is to understand how the process actually works, not how it is documented. Metric Baselining: Quantify the current state - cycle times, error rates, manual touchpoints, cost of failure - to create the measurement foundation against which post-deployment impact will be assessed. Edge Case Extraction: Surface the process edge cases, informal workarounds, and undocumented exceptions that SMEs carry in their heads but rarely write down. These are often where AI creates the most value - and where designs fail if not addressed. Hypothesis Testing: Work with the AI Product Director to test design hypotheses during discovery - some will be confirmed by the process reality, some will need to be revised. Discovery should challenge assumptions, not confirm them. AI Solution Design & Brief Authorship 0-to-1 Reimagining: Translate current state intelligence into an AI transformation design brief that reimagines the process from scratch - not an AI-assisted version of the status quo. The question to answer is: if we were designing this process from scratch with AI available, what would it look like? Vision and ability to think outside of the box is mandatory Design Brief Production: In close collaboration with the AI Product Director, author a detailed solution design brief that defines the AI capability, its inputs and outputs, the logic it applies, the QC framework it requires, and the acceptance criteria the engineering partner must meet. This brief is the specification the partner builds to - precision matters. Partner Identification: Conduct research to identify specialist engineering partners with a demonstrated track record in the specific use case domain. Apply Mulligan's IP sensitivity framework to determine the appropriate engagement model. Go/No-Go Recommendation: Produce a clear go/no-go recommendation to the AI Product Director with supporting rationale - including current state baseline, proposed AI solution design, recommended partner, and initial cost-benefit framing. Engineering Partner Management Day-to-Day Partner Interface: Manage the working relationship with the specialist engineering partner through the build cycle - coordinating build reviews, tracking progress against the design brief, and keeping delivery on schedule. Deliverable Review: Review partner outputs against the design brief and Mulligan's acceptance criteria - identifying divergences early and escalating material gaps to the AI Product Director before they become rework cycles. Iterative Build Cycle: Facilitate the review-feedback-refine loop between the engineering partner and Mulligan's internal QC and functional stakeholders - ensuring the build converges on a production-grade output, not a minimum viable approximation. Vendor Discipline: Enforce Mulligan's core partnership principle: Mulligan authors the specification; the partner builds to it. Never allow the partner to define the scope or shape the design. QC Framework & Evaluation Support Pre-Build QC Design: Design the QC framework for the pod's use case during Phase 1 - before the engineering build begins. Define the human review process, the deterministic checks the DS person will build, and the LLM-as-judge rubric that will evaluate output quality. Baseline Evaluation: Collaborate with the pod's DS person to establish evaluation rubrics, golden datasets, and accuracy thresholds that define what 'production ready' means for this specific use case. First Impression Discipline: Ensure the first outputs from any AI agent are seen only by the QC function before being shown to end users. The first impression determines the adoption trajectory - a rough tool shown prematurely is very hard to recover from. Go-Live & End-User Adoption Shadow Run Coordination: Coordinate the shadow run period - the side-by-side comparison between AI output and the current process that converts end-user sceptics into advocates. This is non-negotiable and must be time-bounded. Adoption Planning: Work with the functional head to build the end-user adoption plan - ensuring the user community feels they helped shape the tool, not that it was imposed on them. Post-Launch Tracking: Track post-deployment metrics against the pre-implementation baseline to document the value created and surface the feedback the DS person needs to refine the model. Required Experience & Education 3-5 years of experience in product management, product analysis, or a closely related role - with direct exposure to AI-enabled products, not just software delivery. Demonstrated ability to lead structured discovery with domain experts - extracting precise process intelligence, surfacing undocumented edge cases, and translating those findings into a clear design brief without being given the answer. Prior experience at an AI-native fintech, lending company, or high-velocity product environment is strongly preferred. This role requires the instinct to reimagine a process with AI rather than automate it. Candidates who have only worked in waterfall delivery environments or large enterprise software teams are unlikely to have the transformation energy this role demands. Experience authoring clear written product artefacts - process maps, design briefs, requirements documents, or specifications - that others have built to. Comfortable managing ambiguity and structuring undefined problems without waiting for direction. The ability to own a phase of work end-to-end and produce a clean output at the end of it. Experience coordinating with external engineering vendors or technology partners is a plus but not required. A willingness to learn partner management and hold partners to a specification is essential. Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or a related field is required. Master's degree is a plus but evaluated secondary to demonstrated product delivery experience and a track record of working on AI-enabled products. Functional & Technical Skills AI Product Fluency: Working familiarity with how LLM-enabled products and AI agents are designed and deployed - sufficient to have a substantive conversation with an engineering partner about what is being built and why, and to identify when a proposed solution does not match the design intent. Credit or lending domain expertise is not required. Process Discovery & Intelligence Extraction: The ability to draw out precise process knowledge from functional SMEs who have never mapped their workflow before - asking the right questions, surfacing the exceptions, and documenting what you hear with enough precision that it can be turned into a design brief. Design Brief Authorship: The ability to translate discovery findings into a clear, buildable specification - defining what the AI should do, what data it receives, what output it must produce, and what 'done' means. A document someone else can build to without coming back for clarification. Structured Problem Solving: . click apply for full job details

We will ask you questions, but we want you to ask us questions! Our technical interviews focus on how you design systems because we believe this is the best way for us to see how you work and for you to see how we collaborate. We don't ask you to write code to solve technical brainteasers that don't appear in your day to day job. Recruiter Screen 30m : Introductory call with our recruiting team to get to know each other and see if the role could be a good mutual fit. System Design Screen 45m : Designing a data processing feature end-to-end.
