BEPC is actively looking for Robotics Automation Engineer (Research and Early Development) in the Tucson, Arizona area!

W2 Contract -12 months with possible extensions!

Pay Rate: $55.00 - $65.00 /hour - Determined based on experience (Paid Weekly)

Summary of the Role:

BEPC is seeking a highly motivated Robotics Automation Engineer (Research and Early Development) to join our client's site in Tucson, Arizona. This role will support research engineering projects by applying diversified knowledge of design principles, practices, and implementation within complex systems and assignments. General responsibilities include concept generation, prototyping, detailed design, and testing to assess performance against project objectives. The engineer will work as part of an agile research engineering team, make independent decisions, and exercise technical judgment to achieve generally defined project goals. Designs will be iterated based on feedback and user testing.

The primary focus is prototyping and integrating motion-control and robotics systems, using machine vision for calibration, and working with general robotics and physical AI.


Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced engineering knowledge to research projects, typically related to process automation and integration.
  • Participate in defining new components, products, or processes, typically for pathology laboratory applications.
  • Create potentially patentable components, systems, or processes.
  • Receive general direction and exercise considerable discretion regarding work details.
  • Perform simulations, analyses, and experiments to test hypotheses related to project outcomes.
  • Design, build, and test prototype hardware and software systems to achieve defined goals.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations of project results and present data to diverse audiences.
  • Participate in project planning as part of a cross-functional, agile technical team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a directly related discipline with eight years of related experience; or
  • Master's degree in a directly related discipline with four years of related experience; or
  • PhD in a directly related discipline with two years of related experience.
  • Expert knowledge of robotic or mechatronic engineering principles and concepts, including motion control, sensing, and coordinate systems.
  • Creative and independent thinker capable of working in a research setting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Hands-on assembly experience with robotics and automation systems.
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, and software prototyping.
  • Experience with robot software.
  • Experience with motion-control systems, including stepper systems, servo controls, encoders, and feedback.
  • Experience with machine vision for object detection and/or robot guidance.
  • Experience with electronic controls, including PID control, PLCs, and industrial controls.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols, including PROFIBUS, EtherCAT, PROFINET, and RS-485.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably robotics.
  • Experience with ABB RobotStudio.
  • Experience with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Experience in the diagnostic industry or a pathology laboratory is beneficial but not required.
  • Experience with industrial networks, including switches, Fortinet, routers, and TCP/IP.
  • Experience with robotic calibration through machine vision, including fiducials, ArUco tags, and AprilTags.
