Job Description

Abbott Laboratories is seeking a Staff Equipment and Automation Engineer to lead design, implementation, and optimization of automated production systems for diagnostics and medical products. In this role, you will own full lifecycle equipment projects-from requirements and concept development through installation, validation, and continuous improvement-ensuring reliability, compliance, and throughput in a regulated (FDA/ISO) environment. You will collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and R&D to introduce new technologies, drive root cause analysis, reduce downtime, and standardize best practices across sites while mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, commissioning, and optimization of automated manufacturing and test equipment
  • Plan and execute equipment validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) and documentation in compliance with FDA/ISO and c
  • GMPDrive continuous improvement to increase throughput, OEE, and equipment reliability
  • Implement automation solutions including PLCs, robotics, vision systems, and data acquisition
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions for equipment and process issues
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and R&D on new product introductions and tech transfers
  • Manage capital equipment projects including scope, schedule, budget, and vendor coordination
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and maintenance standards
  • Ensure equipment safety, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians, sharing best practices and technical expertise
