Job Description

Schmidt Associates seeks a Controls Systems Engineer with an optimization focus to support complex building projects in education, healthcare, and community sectors. You will design, program, and integrate building automation and control systems to enhance energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and reliability. Working within a multidisciplinary design team, you will develop control strategies, perform system modeling and analytics, and lead commissioning and troubleshooting efforts. Responsibilities

  • Design and program building automation and control systems for education, healthcare, and community facilities.
  • Develop control strategies focused on energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and system reliability.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and designers to integrate controls into overall building design.
  • Perform system modeling, data analysis, and optimization of building performance.
  • Lead or support commissioning, functional testing, and troubleshooting of control systems.
  • Prepare technical documentation, control diagrams, and specifications for projects.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors on controls equipment selection and integration.
  • Support sustainable design goals, including measurement and verification of building performance.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior team members and contribute to knowledge sharing.
  • Engage in continuous learning and professional development aligned with firm standards.
