Description
This is a full-time opportunity to support mission-critical aerospace and defense programs through AI-enabled software process improvement. As an Applied AI Engineer, you will design and implement AI-assisted automation to improve software development workflows within an established DevSecOps and software factory environment. This role emphasizes reliability, auditability, and human oversight when integrating AI into engineering processes. The position is onsite in Chandler, AZ.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM field
3+ years of professional software engineering experience with production systems
Experience integrating automation into CI/CD or DevSecOps pipelines
Hands-on experience with LLM-based systems or AI-assisted developer tooling
Strong understanding of human-in-the-loop design principles
Experience working in regulated, security-constrained, or compliance-focused environments
Strong written and verbal communication skills
U.S. Citizenship
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in DoD software factories or defense development environments
Experience with AI-assisted code review, testing, or documentation
Familiarity with peer review workflows, requirements traceability, or compliance artifacts
Experience deploying AI systems with auditability requirements
Active or prior DoD security clearance
Responsibilities
Design and implement AI-assisted automation for peer review, testing, and documentation
Integrate AI tooling into existing DevSecOps and software factory pipelines
Define guardrails and confidence thresholds for AI-assisted systems
Ensure AI systems augment human decision-making
Evaluate AI automation for reliability, risk, and long-term maintainability
Collaborate across software, infrastructure, and security teams
Document automation designs and operational constraints
