Cloud Engineering / Networking Consultant Azure Infrastructure

Location: Libertyville, IL (C2H Visa Independent Candidates Only)

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cloud Engineering / Networking Consultant with strong expertise in Azure infrastructure and enterprise networking. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing cloud and network solutions, while also conducting comprehensive system and network assessments.

This role requires hands-on experience with Azure services, networking architecture, automation, and security, along with the ability to lead infrastructure projects and provide strategic recommendations for scalable, secure, and high-performing systems.

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement Azure cloud services including Virtual Machines, App Services, AKS, Functions, Storage, and Monitoring
Design and implement networking solutions including VNETs, Subnets, NSGs, Azure Firewall, VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute, and SD-WAN
Develop and support automation and DevOps solutions using ARM Templates, Terraform, PowerShell, and CI/CD pipelines
Optimize system performance and cost through autoscaling, load balancing, and reserved instances
Architect systems for scalability, reliability, availability, and security
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance performance and maintain resilient environments
Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends

Project Management
Lead infrastructure initiatives such as cloud integrations, deployments, and network upgrades
Define project scope, timelines, and resource allocation
Monitor project progress and resolve issues proactively

Security and Compliance
Implement and enforce security policies and best practices
Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO and NIST
Identify and remediate vulnerabilities with a security-by-design approach
Implement Zero Trust Architecture principles
Manage Identity and Access Management using Azure AD and RBAC

Vendor Management
Evaluate vendors and ensure defined service levels and expectations
Maintain vendor relationships and monitor performance

Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
Develop and test disaster recovery strategies
Minimize downtime during critical incidents
Implement Azure Site Recovery, backup, and geo-redundancy solutions

System / Networking Assessment Responsibilities
Assess enterprise network environments including LAN, WAN, Fiber, and Voice systems
Evaluate on-premises and cloud network security posture
Review server and compute infrastructure across hybrid environments
Assess storage, backup, restore, and disaster recovery solutions
Document findings and provide actionable recommendations

Reporting and Documentation
Create Network Assessment Reports detailing architecture and configurations of network devices
Develop Server Assessment Reports covering capacity, performance, and availability
Produce Security Assessment Reports identifying risks and vulnerabilities across network, servers, access controls, and firewalls

Required Qualifications
Strong hands-on experience with Azure cloud services and networking
Expertise in infrastructure automation and DevOps tools (Terraform, ARM, PowerShell, CI/CD)
Proven experience in enterprise network design and assessment
Knowledge of security frameworks and Zero Trust Architecture
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to lead projects and work in cross-functional environments
