Software Development Engineer

The Agentic Orchestration team builds and scales the core orchestration layer that powers Zillow's AI-driven experiences. We create a platform that enables domain teams across the company to extend and enhance agentic AI capabilities. This role requires an entrepreneurial approach and a driven curiosity about the constantly evolving field of LLMs, agentic systems, and AI-powered assistants.

We are seeking a collaborative, product minded backend engineer with strong Python fundamentals and a passion for building reliable, scalable systems that power AI applications.

• Build and maintain the orchestration platform that routes requests, manages context, and integrates tools for agentic AI experiences.
• Contribute to platform infrastructure that enables domain teams across the company to build on top of the orchestrator without bottlenecks.
• Support scaling the orchestration layer to handle significant traffic increases as AI powered experiences expand to more users.
• Collaborate closely with applied scientists and machine learning engineers to integrate new AI capabilities into production systems.
• Participate in operations and reliability efforts including incident response, performance optimization, and cost management.
• Apply a growth mindset and first principles to ambiguous problems to iterate on novel solutions and ways of working.

This role is a Remote position. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 states, with limited exceptions.

• Experience with agentic AI frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph) or large language model integration
• Experience building platform infrastructure that other teams consume as a service
• Experience with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar tool integration patterns for AI systems
• Experience with event driven architectures and streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka)
• Familiarity with data platforms and observability tooling (e.g., Databricks, DataDog)
• Experience in a startup environment or on a small team building products from scratch
• Experience collaborating with science, engineering, design, and product partners in a team with a startup culture
• Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) or equivalent experience in Computer Science
