AI Agent Software Engineer

Location: San Francisco, California - fully onsite

Salary:$200-350k plus Equity & Benefits

About the Company

Our client is a high-growth AI company offering a cloud-based SaaS platform that uses large language models (LLMs) to automate customer service across chat, email, and social channels. Their platform helps global enterprises replace traditional support teams with intelligent AI agents capable of handling sensitive, complex customer needs.

Key Requirements

We are seeking top 1% engineering talent - highly analytical developers with strong educational and professional pedigrees.

  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a professional software engineer working on production grade systems with real world users
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills across complex tech stacks
  • Computer Science or Mathematics degree from a top tier university
  • Clear, consistent work history - no more than one move every 2.5-3 years
  • Background at elite tech firms (e.g., Google, Meta, Amazon, Netflix, Microsoft, or quantitative finance competitors)
  • Curiosity and insight into how AI agents behave, learn, and fail - with a strong desire to improve their intelligence and reliability
Nice to have
  • Experience building voice interfaces or multimodal AI systems
  • Familiarity with enterprise customer experience platforms or conversational automation tools
  • Interest in developing visualisation and simulation tools to increase AI agent transparency
Role & Responsibilities

As an AI Agent Software Engineer, you will design and build high-performance AI agents that deliver customer experiences more accurate, efficient, and satisfying than their human counterparts.

You will work in a highly collaborative, engineer led environment with full cycle ownership - from idea to production deployment - and have a direct impact on how enterprise clients engage with their users.

Your work will involve:

  • Designing and building AI agents that operate across chat and voice, executing complex tasks with precision
  • Translating natural language into structured, software grade agent logic
  • Analyzing agent performance at scale to uncover trends and opportunities for platform improvement
  • Experimenting with the latest language and voice model advancements, tuning them for reliability and performance
  • Using real time observability tools (e.g., Trace View) to audit and improve agent decision making with transparency

You'll collaborate with product managers, customer facing teams, and fellow engineers to shape agent behaviour, improve outcomes, and solve real world problems across sectors such as finance, healthcare, and travel.

Why This Role?

This is not a legacy code maintenance role. It is a greenfield opportunity to redefine how millions interact with technology through AI.

You'll join a team that values:

  • Transparent, testable AI behaviour - no monolithic prompts, no guesswork
  • Modular, auditable agent logic - easy to version, debug, and improve
  • A fast feedback loop - engineers work closely with customer teams to rapidly prototype and deploy improvements

You will help companies cut support costs, raise satisfaction scores, and scale customer support without growing headcount.

  • Highly competitive salary + equity options
  • Flexible PTO - take what you need
  • Lunch and snacks provided daily
  • Strong engineering culture focused on iteration, transparency, and technical excellence
What's Ahead

This is your chance to help shape the future of AI-human interaction - to build not just code, but intelligent systems that solve meaningful problems with clarity, speed, and empathy.

If you are driven by engineering that delivers real world impact - not vanity metrics - and thrive in environments where you own your work end to end, we want to hear from you.
