Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Past grant project experience preferred.
- Experience with digital imaging of still images and microfilm to optimize OCR output preferred.
- Demonstrated project management experience preferred.
- Quality control experience preferred.
- Experience with and a solid understanding of digitization and/or microfilm conversion projects, including microfilm inspection and assessment for digitization preferred. Experience with standards-based metadata schemas (non-MARC and MARC) and principles governing standards in digital libraries preferred.
- Knowledge of newspapers or serials, and ability to assess complex relationships between titles preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in related field OR
- Three years of experience working in a library or similar setting.
- One or more years of experience supervising or directing the work of others
Position Summary: The Georgia NDNP Project Manager is responsible for managing the two-year newspaper digitization project funded by a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant, including overseeing all selection, microfilm evaluation, microfilm-to-digital conversion activities for historic newspapers, and managing relationships with external partners and vendors. The Georgia NDNP Project Manager reports to the Digital Projects Librarian/Archivist (Newspapers). Responsibilities of this position are highly complex and performed with an exceptional degree of authority, independence, and initiative in decision-making and creative problem-solving that requires careful interpretation and constant use of discretionary judgment. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position.The award-winning Digital Library of Georgia is a GALILEO initiative based at the University of Georgia Libraries. The DLG works together with Georgia's libraries, archives, museums, and other institutions of cultural heritage to provide access to the cultural and historical resources of the state of Georgia. This primary mission is accomplished through the ongoing development, maintenance, and preservation of digital collections and online digital library resources. These may include materials such as original manuscripts, typescripts, books, photographs, maps, sheet music, posters and broadsides, newspapers, primary source materials on microfilm, audio, video, and other formats. Each project is made available freely to the public as part of GALILEO.
This position has a limited term appointment term which is expected to end 2 years after the start date. The position may be extended beyond the initial term, contingent upon continued funding.
