Job Title: Senior SQL Server DBA Retail & Hospitality Systems Domain: Hospitality + Retail + Multi-Property OperationsLocation: Dallas, TX Job Summary Senior SQL Server DBA with strong business acumen and deep experience supportingretail and hospitality transactional systems. This role goes beyond traditional backend DBA work and requires close collaboration withretail operations, finance, and business stakeholders to ensure data accuracy, system reliability, and revenue protection. Core Technical Skills (Mandatory) SQL Server Administration SQL Server administration Query tuning, indexing, and performance optimization Database maintenance: DBCC checks Index rebuilds Shrink and cleanup strategies Backup & restore strategies High Availability / Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) SQL Security & Role-Based Access Control SQL Agent jobs and ETL schedule management Performance & Monitoring SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) SQL Profiler & Extended Events SQL monitoring tools (RedGate, SolarWinds) Integration & Data Flow Experience API-based data feeds Scheduled batch imports File-based data ingestion Troubleshooting sync issues between systems ETL tools (likely SSIS) Retail & Hospitality Domain Experience (Highly Desired) Experience with large, high-volume transactional databases Understanding of: Inventory adjustments Store-level vs centralized inventory Purchase orders & receiving processes Price books and SKU structures POS (Point-of-Sale) data models Experience with inventory systems or retail ERP Yellow Dog experience is a plus (not mandatory with strong SQL + inventory background) Tools & Technologies SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) SQL Profiler, Extended Events RedGate / SolarWinds Power BI or Tableau (data quality & monitoring dashboards) Windows Server & Active Directory basics Git / version control (light usage for scripts) Yellow Dog APIs / integration layer (nice to have) Key Responsibilities Operational & Business-Facing Responsibilities Explain data issues clearly to non-technical teams Translate data errors into business impact (e.g., revenue loss, margin issues) Identify and document operational improvement opportunities Work cross-functionally with: Finance Retail Client / Directors Store managers Corporate IT This role requires strong business acumen not just backend DBA skills. Daily Activities Monitor SQL Server health: Slow queries, blocking, deadlocks Manage backups, restores, and failover readiness Validate data feeds from: POS ? Yellow Dog ? downstream systems Resolve data hygiene issues: Orphaned records Duplicate SKUs Mismatched items Incorrect unit conversions Analyze data anomalies affecting retail operations Document database architecture and data flows Recommend strategies to stabilize and scale systems Project-Based Work Index tuning and performance optimization SQL Server migration or server consolidation SQL security hardening DR and backup strategy improvements Monitoring dashboard development Coordination with Yellow Dog vendor support Support for new store openings and rollouts Assist with PCI / SOX compliance initiatives
