The role, in a nutshell We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Platform team, which owns the customer-facing platform capabilities that power Chainguard's products, including our notification system, authentication, and the next generation of our public APIs.This is a highly impactful, highly visible role in a fast-paced, product-driven environment. You'll design and build backend services and APIs that are consumed across multiple product lines, partnering closely with Product and the Experience team to ship features that customers rely on every day. We're looking for someone who wants to move quickly, cares deeply about quality and reliability, and is energized by working across products rather than owning a single narrow service. What you'll do Design, build, and evolve customer-facing backend services and public APIs by understanding how different Chainguard products and customer segments use shared platform capabilities, and ensuring APIs and services work well for all of them. Own features end-to-end: from design through implementation, rollout, and iteration, in close partnership with Product Management and the Experience (front-end) team. Create technical design documents and drive your own design plans with clarity and confidence. Contribute to a product-driven roadmap with real deadlines and clear outcomes, helping the team prioritize tradeoffs and ship iteratively rather than waiting for "perfect." What we're looking for Strong backend engineering experience 5+ years of experience building production services and APIs in a modern cloud environment. Proficiency with Go (Golang) or strong readiness to ramp quickly - we write everything in Go and expect you to get there fast. Experience designing, implementing, and evolving public APIs that are consumed externally and internally across multiple products or services. You can talk about topics like versioning, backwards compatibility, auth, and usability from real-world experience. Familiarity with microservices and cloud-native architectures, including containers and Kubernetes, and how to build services that are observable and resilient in production. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work with PMs, designers, and engineers across multiple product lines. Proven ability to thrive in a remote, startup environment: A genuine interest in a high-paced, high-intensity, "ship it" culture where you're self-directed, comfortable with ambiguity, and working with people who will challenge you to grow as a developer. Additionally, we would love it if you have Prior experience building platform or shared services that span multiple products or customer experiences. Experience in the cloud-native, containers, or security ecosystem, or with tools in the broader CNCF space. Meaningful open source contributions, especially as a maintainer or regular contributor in relevant projects. Senior Product Security Engineer The role in a nutshell: You are a deeply technical engineer who gets restless when pipelines aren't locked down. You care about shipping secure software! At Chainguard, you won't be a gate at the end of the process; you'll be embedded in it. What you'll do: Build & Harden Secure Pipelines Design, build, and maintain secure CI/CD pipelines with security gates that catch issues before they reach production. Systematically, consistently and automatically capture the risk exposure of Chainguards products. Implement and enforce software supply chain security controls: signed artifacts, SBOMs, provenance attestation (SLSA, Sigstore / Cosign). Proactively identify emerging customer security needs, and build solutions to meet these. Cloud-Native Product Hardening Lead security architecture reviews and threat models for Kubernetes-based workloads running on GCP and AWS. Harden container images, Kubernetes cluster configurations, and cloud IAM postures - minimising attack surface across our product stack. Define and drive adoption of baseline security standards: pod security standards, network policies, workload identity, secrets management. Evaluate and operationalise CNAPP / CSPM tooling to maintain continuous visibility into cloud-native risk. What we're looking for: Required 5+ years in software engineering, security engineering, or a combined role with meaningful hands-on security responsibility throughout. Strong proficiency in Go or Python, with the ability to write, review, and debug production-quality code. Deep, hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production (cluster hardening, RBAC, network policies, admission controllers). Practical expertise with GCP and/or AWS: IAM, workload identity, secrets management, security services (e.g., GCP Security Command Center, AWS Security Hub). Proven track record designing and securing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Cloud Build, Tekton, or similar). Fluency with container security: image scanning, distroless/minimal base images, runtime security.
