WHAT YOU'LL DO As an Outside Plant Engineer, you'll take ownership of planning, estimating, designing, and maintaining Smithville's outside plant network. Your work directly supports key departments across the company, including Network Engineering, Network Operations, Fiber Splicing, Central Office, Sales, and Construction. You'll work on a variety of projects, including:Designing and releasing detailed work order packetsReclaiming and updating existing plant assetsReconciling utility pole inventoryComparing and improving fiber management systemsMapping and documenting facility locationsIdentifying process improvements that enhance efficiency and service deliveryThis role offers a balance of independent project work, field visits, cross-functional collaboration, and strategic decision-making. You Will Also:Obtain easements, permits, and approvals as neededMake key decisions related to project timelines, technical design, and cost analysisJuggle multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environmentResponsibilities BreakdownDevelop and support work order packets - 65%Maintain facility records - 25%Complete new project cost estimates - 5%Special projects and duties as assigned - 5%WHAT YOU BRINGBachelor's degree preferred, engineering focus is a plus (Associate degree or technical equivalent considered)Strong communication skills and attention to detailSolid project management and analytical skillsExperience in telecommunications or related industryKnowledge of OSP design, construction, and industry standardsUnderstanding of permitting, easements, and property rightsExperience with MS Office, Adobe, CAD, GIS, and Google EarthValid driver's license and safe driving recordWillingness to learn Smithville-specific design practices within 9-12 monthsWork Environment70% office-based work15% work in a vehicle or enclosed outdoor shelter10% exposure to outside weather5% work in non-climate-controlled areas (e.g., warehouse)Physical requirements include frequent sitting; occasional walking, standing, bending, or lifting up to 30 lbs.
