Job Description Job Description Job Summary The Geospatial Solutions Supervisor is responsible for leading geospatial data processing, quality control, and solutions engineering for the Field Services department. This role designs, implements, and continuously optimizes geospatial workflows, data pipelines, and platforms that support LiDAR, GPR, RGB, thermal imagery, and GIS deliverables. The Geospatial Solutions Supervisor plays a central role in the research and development of new service offerings, manages day-to-day data processing operations, provides technical leadership to the geospatial analyst team, and collaborates closely with field teams to ensure accurate, high-value deliverables. This position also maintains a working understanding of field operations to provide limited operational support when the Field Survey Supervisor is unavailable. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Geospatial Solutions and Innovation: Identify and implement opportunities to improve data processing pipelines, geospatial integration workflows, and reporting processes, increasing throughput, consistency, and deliverable quality. Design and build custom tools, scripts, and automation processes (e.g., Python, batch processing, API integrations) to optimize data workflows and reduce manual handling. Pilot and evaluate new technologies and platforms such as AI-assisted classification, advanced point cloud analytics, and real-time data delivery solutions. Lead or actively contribute to research and development initiatives for new geospatial service offerings and analytical products. Stay current with emerging geospatial, UAS, and data analytics technologies, and integrate relevant advancements into operational practices. • Data Management and Quality Control: Oversee the ingestion, organization, processing, and delivery of LiDAR, GPR, thermal imagery, RGB photography, and other field data collected by internal teams and partners. Establish, document, and enforce quality control standards and checklists to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across all active projects. Manage GIS datasets, including schema design, attribution standards, and integration into internal and client-facing platforms. Coordinate with field teams to identify and resolve data quality issues, determine root causes, and update field procedures to prevent recurrence. Ensure data security, integrity, and appropriate backup and archiving practices for all geospatial datasets. • Platform and Workflow Integration: Configure and manage geospatial platforms and processing tools, including LiDAR processing software, GIS systems, and cloud-hosted data portals used by the department. Collaborate with internal IT, software vendors, and cloud providers to optimize system performance, storage strategy, and platform reliability. Develop and maintain documented workflows for data processing, asset extraction, classification, and deliverable packaging. Implement and manage API-based integrations and data exchanges between internal systems and client platforms as required. Support user training and technical troubleshooting for internal staff working within geospatial platforms and tools. • Technical Leadership and Team Development: Provide technical leadership and day-to-day direction to Geospatial Analysts and other staff involved in geospatial data processing. Develop training materials and conduct sessions to build team proficiency in LiDAR processing, GIS tools, QA workflows, and platform operations. Serve as the primary technical escalation point for complex data, workflow, or platform issues across the geospatial team. Conduct performance conversations, identify development needs, and support the professional growth of analyst team members. Promote a culture of continuous learning, technical curiosity, and innovation within the geospatial team. • Client-Facing Technical Consulting: Collaborate with project managers and business development to understand client requirements and translate them into well-defined geospatial solutions and deliverable specifications. Present and explain technical approaches, data products, platform capabilities, and innovation roadmaps to clients in a clear, consultative manner. Support proposal writing and scope development by defining geospatial methods, processing assumptions, and deliverable standards. Participate in client review meetings to address technical questions, present findings, and gather feedback for continuous deliverable improvement. • Cross-Functional Support and Collaboration: Work closely with the Field Survey Supervisor to ensure that field data capture methodologies align with downstream geospatial processing requirements. Provide guidance to field teams on data capture standards, naming conventions, metadata requirements, and collection parameters. Maintain a working knowledge of field operations, equipment, and safety considerations to provide limited operational support when the Field Survey Supervisor is unavailable. Share insights from geospatial analysis that can improve field planning, data collection efficiency, and operational safety. • Administrative and Strategic Support: Assist the Superintendent of Field Services with strategic planning related to technology adoption, staffing needs, platform investments, and service expansion. Develop and maintain documentation including SOPs, processing standards, best practices guides, and technical training materials for geospatial operations. Contribute to budget planning and utilization tracking for software licenses, cloud infrastructure, and geospatial R&D initiatives. Perform other tasks related to geospatial and field services operations as directed by the Superintendent of Field Services. Qualifications • Associate or bachelor's degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience. • Demonstrated experience managing geospatial data pipelines, processing workflows, and project queues across multiple concurrent projects. • Extensive expertise in LiDAR data processing, including LAS file formats, classification schemas, and quality metrics. • Proficiency in GIS applications (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and geospatial data integration across various formats and platforms. • Experience with scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, batch processing) for data processing and workflow optimization. • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Pro, and geospatial software platforms. • Superior communication skills with demonstrated experience in client-facing technical roles and cross-functional collaboration. • Highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented, with a strong focus on quality and continuous process improvement. • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound technical decisions under pressure and against tight deadlines. • Skill in simplifying and communicating complex geospatial concepts clearly to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications • FAA Part 107 Certification or demonstrated working knowledge of UAS operations and data collection workflows. • Experience with AI/ML-assisted classification, point cloud analytics, or similar advanced geospatial techniques. • Familiarity with data integration tools, cloud-hosted platforms, and API-based system integrations. • Strong knowledge of T&D infrastructure, including distribution poles, conductors, and related equipment, and how field-collected data supports utility inspection and design workflows. • Experience with photogrammetry tools and workflows in addition to LiDAR and GIS processing. • Demonstrated ability to train and mentor technical staff on complex geospatial tools and workflows. • Experience contributing to proposal writing, scope development, and client technical presentations. • Ability to collaborate effectively with both office-based and field-based staff and to travel occasionally to project or client locations. • Curiosity and willingness to explore new tools and methods to keep the organization at the leading edge of geospatial technology.
