Job Description Job Description About ATI: Automated Tire (ATI) is a Series-B startup revolutionizing automotive service with innovative robotic and software technology. Founded by experienced entrepreneurs and backed by major players in the automotive and tire sectors, ATI is building the next generation of tools that make tire shops and dealership service lanes faster, safer, and smarter. If you're passionate about building products that ship into real-world environments, ATI is the place for you. Position Overview: BrakeWise is our production brake inspection product: a mobile application paired with a camera probe that technicians use to assess pad and rotor condition during live service work. The machine learning behind it is a multi-stage pipeline of segmentation and classification models that turn raw imagery into a wear assessment a shop can act on and charge for. That pipeline works, and it is an MVP. It runs on Cloud Functions, and it will not carry us to the customer volume we're signing. We're looking for a Staff MLOps Engineer to own it - to take it from a working prototype to a serving architecture that holds up under real throughput, with the latency, cost, and reliability characteristics a paying customer expects. You'll own every aspect of how our models reach production and how they get better: serving infrastructure, deployment and rollback, monitoring and drift detection, the retraining loop, and the evaluation discipline that tells us whether a new model is actually an improvement. Model accuracy here has commercial consequences - a bad wear call is either a missed repair or an unnecessary one, in front of a customer. This is also the senior cloud architecture voice on the team. You'll partner closely with our Staff Full Stack Engineer, who owns the mobile app and customer dashboard, reviewing designs and setting GCP practices across the platform rather than only within the ML stack. Responsibilities: Own the multi-stage inference pipeline (segmentors and classifiers) end to end - serving architecture, latency, throughput, reliability, and cost per inspection Re-architect the pipeline off its current Cloud Functions MVP onto infrastructure that scales: containerized inference, GPU-backed or accelerated serving where it pays for itself, queueing, batching, and autoscaling Own model deployment: versioning, staged rollout, canary and shadow evaluation, and fast rollback when a model regresses Build and own the improvement loop - field data collection, labeling workflows, dataset versioning, evaluation harnesses, and regression suites that catch quality loss before customers do Monitor model quality in production: drift detection, segmented performance analysis, and triage of real-world failures against real inspection imagery Define the metrics that matter commercially - false-positive and false-negative rates on a wear call, technician override rate, unit inference cost - and report against them Improve model performance directly: architecture selection, augmentation, hard-example mining, and quantization or distillation where latency and cost demand it Evaluate on-device versus cloud inference trade-offs for the mobile app, and own whichever path we choose Establish MLOps foundations: reproducible training, experiment tracking, CI/CD for models, and infrastructure as code Serve as the cloud architecture counterpart to the Staff Full Stack Engineer - reviewing designs, setting GCP best practices, and raising the platform's infrastructure bar Work with hardware and field operations on capture quality - lighting, focus, and probe positioning - since upstream image quality sets the ceiling on model performance Own production support for the ML stack, including incident response and on-call participation for inference availability Proactively identify technical risks and architectural trade-offs, and communicate them clearly to leadership Requirements 8+ years of professional engineering experience, including several years owning machine learning systems in production - not solely model development Demonstrated experience taking a computer vision pipeline from prototype to production scale, serving real users at meaningful volume Deep experience deploying and operating segmentation and classification models, including multi-stage pipelines where one model's output feeds the next Strong cloud infrastructure background, preferably GCP - Vertex AI, Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Functions, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, and Docker Production-grade Python, and fluency with PyTorch or TensorFlow Hands-on experience with model serving and optimization - Triton, TorchServe, ONNX, TensorRT, quantization, or equivalent Experience owning deployment and support for a live system, including incident response, rollback, and on-call Experience building data and labeling pipelines with dataset versioning and reproducible evaluation Comfort with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform) and CI/CD automation (e.g., GitHub Actions) Sound judgment on the accuracy, latency, and cost trade-offs that determine whether an ML product is viable Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills, including with non-technical stakeholders Preferred Qualifications: On-device or edge inference experience (Core ML, TensorFlow Lite, ExecuTorch) and integration into mobile applications Active learning or human-in-the-loop labeling systems Computer vision on small, long-tail, or industrial inspection datasets rather than large public benchmarks Experience with camera and sensor integration, or working alongside hardware teams on capture quality Experience with robotics, IoT, or edge computing (ROS or similar platforms) Familiarity with automotive service, dealership operations, or DMS ecosystems Contributions to open-source projects Why Join ATI: Be part of a groundbreaking startup transforming automotive service technology Work with a team of industry veterans and top-tier robotics and software talent Own the ML platform for a product that already has paying customers - your architecture decisions set the scaling ceiling Our customers are our investors, so you'll develop and test in real service lane environments A genuine data advantage: proprietary inspection imagery from real shops that no public dataset can replicate Clear Total Addressable Market with strong pull from B2B partners Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package Prime location in Woburn, MA with on-site parking Collaborative, low-ego, high-intensity work environment

Job Description Job Description About Zipline Zipline is the world's largest and most experienced drone delivery service. We are on a mission to serve all humans equally by ensuring access to food, medicine and essential goods anytime, anywhere. We design, build, and operate the world's largest autonomous logistics system, delivering critical supplies quickly and reliably. Today, Zipline operates on four continents, makes a delivery somewhere in the world every 30 seconds, and has completed millions of deliveries to date, including blood, vaccines, medical supplies, food, and retail products. Our customers include the world's largest and most prominent healthcare systems, governments, retailers, restaurants and global businesses who rely on us to save lives, reduce emissions, increase economic opportunity, and provide delivery from point A to point B as fast as possible. The drone is only 15% of what we've built to enable seamless, reliable, global operations. Our system strengthens supply chains, reduces congestion, and gives people time back. With more than 140 million commercial autonomous miles safely flown, Zipline is redefining access to healthcare, consumer products, and food across the globe. We operate at a global scale and are looking for practical problem solvers who thrive on real-world challenges and rapid growth. Our team is motivated by building systems that have a direct, meaningful impact on people's lives and by scaling the future of logistics. We are seeking people who sculpt from first principles, enjoy facing adversity, and can do the impossible at record breaking speeds. About You and The Role Zipline's autonomous delivery systems depend on reliable avionics electronics, flex circuits, harnesses, and connectors operating through vibration, repeated motion, temperature cycling, moisture, and manufacturing variation. As a Failure Analysis Engineer, you will investigate failures from fielded systems, development testing, life testing, and manufacturing. You will help reproduce failures, isolate electrical faults, inspect hardware, analyze data, and develop evidence-supported conclusions. This is a hands-on role suited to an early-career engineer or highly technical hardware professional who enjoys working in the lab and wants to develop deeper expertise in electronics, materials, reliability, and physical failure analysis. What You'll Do Investigate failures involving flex circuits, rigid-flex assemblies, PCBAs, connectors, harnesses, solder joints, vias, and electronic components. Preserve failed hardware and collect relevant configuration, test, manufacturing, service, and field data. Reproduce intermittent failures under representative electrical, mechanical, thermal, and environmental conditions. Troubleshoot hardware using schematics, wiring diagrams, multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, logic analyzers, thermal imaging, and protocol tools. Analyze telemetry, test logs, measurements, and inspection results to identify patterns and narrow possible causes. Perform hands-on inspection and support physical analysis using microscopy, X-ray, cross-sectioning, and other appropriate techniques. Develop and execute experiments that prove or disprove suspected failure mechanisms. Use structured methods such as fault trees, 5-Why, fishbone analysis, and 8D to separate symptoms from root cause. Work with Electrical, Mechanical, Test, Reliability, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supplier Engineering to review evidence and determine next steps. Support corrective actions involving product design, manufacturing processes, suppliers, inspection, diagnostics, and end-of-line testing. Verify that corrective actions address the original failure and do not introduce new risks. Write clear failure-analysis reports documenting the hardware configuration, evidence, methods, results, conclusions, and recommended next steps. Maintain a searchable record of failure symptoms, mechanisms, root causes, and validated fixes. Track investigation turnaround time, no-trouble-found rate, corrective-action status, recurrence, and field-failure reduction. What You'll Bring Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on technical experience. Hands-on comfort working with electronics, hardware assemblies, and laboratory equipment. Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, PCB layouts, engineering drawings, and component datasheets. Strong troubleshooting fundamentals and a methodical approach to isolating ambiguous or intermittent failures. Experience using standard electrical test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and logic analyzers. Practical data-analysis skills using Python, MATLAB, JMP, SQL, or equivalent tools. Ability to organize data, identify trends, compare test populations, and communicate what the evidence does and does not support. Curiosity about how electronic, mechanical, material, manufacturing, and environmental factors interact. Clear technical writing and the ability to document assumptions, results, uncertainty, and next steps. Willingness to learn new laboratory, sample-preparation, inspection, and analysis methods. This role is based in South San Francisco and requires regular hands-on work in the laboratory. Occasional travel to suppliers, manufacturers, test facilities, and external analysis laboratories may be required. Nice to Have Demonstrated experience in electronics failure analysis, hardware reliability, product engineering, hardware test, or high-reliability hardware debugging. Knowledge of flex and rigid-flex construction, PCB fabrication, SMT assembly, soldering, crimping, connectors, or electronics manufacturing. Experience with microscopy, X-ray, CT, cross-sectioning, SEM/EDS, dye-and-pry, or other physical FA techniques. Experience with vibration, shock, temperature cycling, humidity, bend cycling, or accelerated-life testing. Experience supporting corrective actions across design, manufacturing, quality, or supplier teams. Familiarity with high-speed interfaces, CAN, Ethernet, SerDes, cameras, RF, motor controls, or power electronics. Familiarity with IPC standards or structured processes such as FRACAS, CAPA, or 8D. Experience in aerospace, robotics, automotive, medical devices, or high-volume electronics. What Success Looks Like Failures are reproduced and narrowed to an evidence-supported cause within an agreed turnaround time. Investigation reports are clear enough for another engineer or technician to understand and continue the work. Intermittent and no-trouble-found returns decrease as diagnostic methods improve. Findings result in better designs, manufacturing controls, inspections, and validation tests. The engineer steadily develops deeper ownership of increasingly complex failure investigations. What Else You Need To Know The starting salary range for this role is $120,000 - $155,000. Zipline is an equal opportunity employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws or our own sensibilities.
