senior systems engineer production support
Software Engineer II, Athena Engine Front End
Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. New York, New York
Every day, customers run millions of queries on Amazon Athena, from ad-hoc exploration to mission-critical pipelines. Athena is now building its next-generation engine across multiple engines and the Engine Front End team is responsible for the query lifecycle management and routing queries to the right engine with the optimal configuration. Amazon Athena is an interactive query service that simplifies data analysis in Amazon S3 using standard SQL. Athena is serverless, so there is no infrastructure to set up or manage. Our customers use Athena to process logs, perform data analytics, and run interactive queries and get started quickly. This is all done through a simple, easy to use API in front of a complex, distributed system. Key job responsibilities Our ideal candidate has strong programming skills and sound judgment about distributed systems that customers depend on every day. As an SDE II on the team you will own features and services end to end: shape designs with input from senior engineers and your manager, build, test, ship through our release pipelines, and operate what you ship in production. The problems are concrete and hard. Route millions of queries a day across engine generations without customers noticing. Prove a new engine build is safe before it takes production traffic. Keep the submission path fast and reliable while the engine underneath it changes. Everything you ship is exercised by every query Athena runs, so we care about engineers who sweat correctness, deployment safety, and failures that make sense to customers. We expect you to learn the system deeply, raise problems we have not spotted yet, and grow toward driving designs independently. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience - 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience - 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience - Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field - Experience programming with at least one software programming language PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. If you have a disability and need a workplace accommodation or adjustment during the application and hiring process, including support for the interview or onboarding process, please visit for more information. If the country/region you're applying in isn't listed, please contact your Recruiting Partner. The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Software Development Engineer, Agentic Workspaces
Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. Seattle, Washington
As part of the AWS Applied AI Solutions organization, we have a vision to provide business applications, leveraging Amazon's unique experience and expertise, that are used by millions of companies worldwide to manage day-to-day operations. We will accomplish this by accelerating our customers' businesses through delivery of intuitive and differentiated technology solutions that solve enduring business challenges. We blend vision with curiosity and Amazon's real-world experience to build opinionated, turnkey solutions. Where customers prefer to buy over build, we become their trusted partner with solutions that are no-brainers to buy and easy to use. Amazon WorkSpaces has protected and empowered enterprise work for over a decade, and we are now reimagining what a workspace is. We are building Agentic WorkSpaces: a platform where the workspace itself is an active partner in how you work, not just infrastructure that delivers applications. Today more than a million users rely on WorkSpaces daily; tomorrow those workspaces will host AI agents alongside humans, agents that code, troubleshoot, analyze, and act on behalf of their users, governed by the same identity and security policies as the people they serve. We compete with Microsoft, Citrix, and Omnissa, and we intend to leapfrog them by building the workspace that was designed for the agentic era, not retrofitted for it. Agentic Workspaces' On-Instance Software (OIS) is the layer that makes this possible from the inside of every WorkSpace: the operating system, provisioning logic, on-instance agents, telemetry, and update mechanisms across Windows and Linux. Our vision is for that software to be invisible, operating systems that launch within weeks of upstream general availability, agents that update themselves safely without disrupting access, provisioning that is self-diagnosable, and fleet management that works through the same AWS tools customers already use, delivered from commercial regions to classified partitions with automation as the default so quality and breadth improve release over release. Knowledge of Linux operating systems, Linux package management, and native Linux desktop application development is desired. You want to solve challenging problems in operating systems, identity, AI, and desktop platform engineering at a scale that impacts more than a million users daily. We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to design, build, and operate the services and agents that provision, secure, and maintain WorkSpaces for humans and, increasingly, for the AI agents that work beside them, across every supported OS and identity provider. As a developer on our team, you'll own code end-to-end from design to development, and work closely with senior technical leaders within the team and across AWS. You will own end-to-end delivery of features and systems within OIS - from design through deployment and operations - holding a high bar for availability, latency, and security. You are customer-obsessed, technically deep, and energized by solving hard problems. You think big about what the workspace of the future looks like - a unified agent shipping to two platforms from one code base, an identity model that treats humans and agents as first-class citizens, and autonomous troubleshooting that resolves issues before users notice - and then you build the systems to get there. Key job responsibilities Design and deliver features and systems within On-Instance Software, contributing to the architecture strategy for how the on-instance layer evolves to host and govern AI agents alongside human users. Drive the agent unification work that lets Windows and Linux features ship from a single codebase, making feature parity the default rather than a follow-up. Partner with EC2, identity providers, self-service troubleshooting, and platform teams - earning trust by driving technical discussions that result in impactful architectural decisions. Design and implement on-instance identity, security, and governance for a world where humans and agents share the same desktop: identity integration across the major join models, a trust and authorization posture that treats agents as first-class principals, and compliance-ready images built in rather than bolted on. Own the operation of low-latency, high-availability provisioning and agent services used by more than one million WorkSpaces users globally. Ensure your services meet stringent SLAs across multiple production regions, AWS partitions, and OS variants, with self-service diagnostics and autonomous issue resolution before customers are impacted. Drive engineering excellence through instrumentation, automated testing, and pipeline-based deployment - eliminating manual toil and shipping features simultaneously across Windows and Linux. Think big about the agentic era and experiment boldly with AI-powered capabilities such as conversational setup, natural-language troubleshooting, and AI-assisted fleet management. Raise the bar on customer self-service so operating-system breadth, safe automatic updates, and reliable provisioning are delivered without imposing an operational tax on the customer or the agent workflows running on the desktop. Staff Machine Learning Operations Engineer - Computer Vision
ATI Woburn, Massachusetts
Job Description Job Description About ATI: Automated Tire (ATI) is a Series-B startup revolutionizing automotive service with innovative robotic and software technology. Founded by experienced entrepreneurs and backed by major players in the automotive and tire sectors, ATI is building the next generation of tools that make tire shops and dealership service lanes faster, safer, and smarter. If you're passionate about building products that ship into real-world environments, ATI is the place for you. Position Overview: BrakeWise is our production brake inspection product: a mobile application paired with a camera probe that technicians use to assess pad and rotor condition during live service work. The machine learning behind it is a multi-stage pipeline of segmentation and classification models that turn raw imagery into a wear assessment a shop can act on and charge for. That pipeline works, and it is an MVP. It runs on Cloud Functions, and it will not carry us to the customer volume we're signing. We're looking for a Staff MLOps Engineer to own it - to take it from a working prototype to a serving architecture that holds up under real throughput, with the latency, cost, and reliability characteristics a paying customer expects. You'll own every aspect of how our models reach production and how they get better: serving infrastructure, deployment and rollback, monitoring and drift detection, the retraining loop, and the evaluation discipline that tells us whether a new model is actually an improvement. Model accuracy here has commercial consequences - a bad wear call is either a missed repair or an unnecessary one, in front of a customer. This is also the senior cloud architecture voice on the team. You'll partner closely with our Staff Full Stack Engineer, who owns the mobile app and customer dashboard, reviewing designs and setting GCP practices across the platform rather than only within the ML stack. Responsibilities: Own the multi-stage inference pipeline (segmentors and classifiers) end to end - serving architecture, latency, throughput, reliability, and cost per inspection Re-architect the pipeline off its current Cloud Functions MVP onto infrastructure that scales: containerized inference, GPU-backed or accelerated serving where it pays for itself, queueing, batching, and autoscaling Own model deployment: versioning, staged rollout, canary and shadow evaluation, and fast rollback when a model regresses Build and own the improvement loop - field data collection, labeling workflows, dataset versioning, evaluation harnesses, and regression suites that catch quality loss before customers do Monitor model quality in production: drift detection, segmented performance analysis, and triage of real-world failures against real inspection imagery Define the metrics that matter commercially - false-positive and false-negative rates on a wear call, technician override rate, unit inference cost - and report against them Improve model performance directly: architecture selection, augmentation, hard-example mining, and quantization or distillation where latency and cost demand it Evaluate on-device versus cloud inference trade-offs for the mobile app, and own whichever path we choose Establish MLOps foundations: reproducible training, experiment tracking, CI/CD for models, and infrastructure as code Serve as the cloud architecture counterpart to the Staff Full Stack Engineer - reviewing designs, setting GCP best practices, and raising the platform's infrastructure bar Work with hardware and field operations on capture quality - lighting, focus, and probe positioning - since upstream image quality sets the ceiling on model performance Own production support for the ML stack, including incident response and on-call participation for inference availability Proactively identify technical risks and architectural trade-offs, and communicate them clearly to leadership Requirements 8+ years of professional engineering experience, including several years owning machine learning systems in production - not solely model development Demonstrated experience taking a computer vision pipeline from prototype to production scale, serving real users at meaningful volume Deep experience deploying and operating segmentation and classification models, including multi-stage pipelines where one model's output feeds the next Strong cloud infrastructure background, preferably GCP - Vertex AI, Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Functions, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, and Docker Production-grade Python, and fluency with PyTorch or TensorFlow Hands-on experience with model serving and optimization - Triton, TorchServe, ONNX, TensorRT, quantization, or equivalent Experience owning deployment and support for a live system, including incident response, rollback, and on-call Experience building data and labeling pipelines with dataset versioning and reproducible evaluation Comfort with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform) and CI/CD automation (e.g., GitHub Actions) Sound judgment on the accuracy, latency, and cost trade-offs that determine whether an ML product is viable Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills, including with non-technical stakeholders Preferred Qualifications: On-device or edge inference experience (Core ML, TensorFlow Lite, ExecuTorch) and integration into mobile applications Active learning or human-in-the-loop labeling systems Computer vision on small, long-tail, or industrial inspection datasets rather than large public benchmarks Experience with camera and sensor integration, or working alongside hardware teams on capture quality Experience with robotics, IoT, or edge computing (ROS or similar platforms) Familiarity with automotive service, dealership operations, or DMS ecosystems Contributions to open-source projects Why Join ATI: Be part of a groundbreaking startup transforming automotive service technology Work with a team of industry veterans and top-tier robotics and software talent Own the ML platform for a product that already has paying customers - your architecture decisions set the scaling ceiling Our customers are our investors, so you'll develop and test in real service lane environments A genuine data advantage: proprietary inspection imagery from real shops that no public dataset can replicate Clear Total Addressable Market with strong pull from B2B partners Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package Prime location in Woburn, MA with on-site parking Collaborative, low-ego, high-intensity work environment
