Staff or Principal Applications Engineer
Antora Energy San Jose, California
Job Description Job Description Antora Energy delivers affordable, reliable energy to industry, data centers, and the grid. Our thermal batteries turn low-cost electricity into always-on heat and power, without supply-constrained critical minerals or multi-year construction timelines. We are growing our company with people who put team and mission first, value connection through laughter and joy, and work with humility and openness. We are committed to building a diverse, passionate, and creative team dedicated to a future powered by abundant, clean, low-cost energy. Position Summary We are seeking a Staff or Principal Applications Engineer to establish Antora's applications engineering function - the senior technical authority for the customer opportunities that don't fit a standard template. Antora's standard configurations run through repeatable tools and playbooks operated by our business development team; you will own everything that doesn't: the first-of-a-kind applications, constrained sites, and novel configurations of Antora's thermal batteries across industrial process heat and utility-scale power for data centers and the grid, in the U.S. and internationally. When we dive into a new customer application, you are the engineer who joins the first call, earns the trust of senior customer technical leadership, and creatively develops the solution around Antora's product: running technical discovery, sizing and configuring the system, producing conceptual site layouts and heat and power integration designs, setting the technical basis for performance guarantees, and building the cost estimates behind commercial contracts and investment decisions, then handing a clean basis of design to our project engineering team for detailed design and execution. You are also the technical conscience on what Antora commits to, with the standing and judgment to hold the line on feasibility, schedule, and performance so we win deals we can actually deliver. This role will report to the VP of Product Management within Antora's Commercial team. Principal AI Engineer -Enfi
Unusual Ventures Boston, Massachusetts
Job Description Job Description Overview We're looking for a Senior Principal AI Engineer to provide hands-on technical leadership across complex, production-grade AI systems. This role is for a builder-architect-someone who has repeatedly taken AI systems from idea to production, understands where they fail at scale, and knows how to unblock teams to move faster without sacrificing outcomes. This is not a pure strategy or people-management role. It is a deeply technical builder role with organizational impact. You will define technical direction by writing code, designing systems, and helping the organization stay in builder mode as complexity and scale increase. What You'll Do Architect and build end-to-end AI systems including LLM orchestration, retrieval layers, agentic workflows, and structured reasoning systems Lead the design of multi-agent and tool-calling systems that operate reliably in production Establish and evolve architecture patterns for scalable, cost-aware, and observable AI applications Drive technical decisions across data modeling, AI pipelines, infrastructure, and APIs Define best practices for evaluation, monitoring, and governance of AI systems in production Mentor senior engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and system-level debugging Translate ambiguous business and domain problems into clear technical strategies Stay ahead of emerging AI techniques and integrate what matters-without chasing hype Core Skills & Experience 12+ years of software engineering experience, with deep hands-on experience building AI/ML systems in production Strong proficiency in TypeScript, React, Go, Python and modern AI frameworks Extensive experience with LLMs, including RAG, tool use, prompt systems, and agentic architectures Proven ability to design and ship large-scale AI systems that run reliably in real-world environments Strong architectural judgment across data systems, AI models, infrastructure, and application layers Deep understanding of AI failure modes: hallucination, drift, brittleness, latency, and cost blowups Excellent communication skills-able to explain technical tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical audiences Track record of shipping systems end-to-end, not just prototypes or research work Builder Mentality (This Is Core to the Role) We are explicitly looking for builders. By " builder, " we mean an operating mode, not a title. Builders: Bias toward systems that solve user needs, not perfect abstractions Move comfortably from ambiguity first draft iteration production Optimize for learning velocity and customer impact, not theoretical completeness Are willing to build the entire arc of a system to surface real constraints early Treat quality as something you earn through iteration, not something you gate progress with Understand that the last 10-20% of a system-integration, edge cases, UX, usability, reliability-is where real work happens At the Principal level, being a builder also means: Helping the organization stay in builder mode as it grows Collapsing unnecessary complexity rather than introducing more process Knowing when architectural rigor matters, and when it is premature Pulling promising work across the finish line instead of waiting for "perfect readiness" Modeling speed, ownership, and clarity for other senior engineers Your impact is measured not only by what you build, but by how much faster and more effectively others can build because of you. Preferred Experience (Domain-Flexible Specialties) Knowledge graph architecture, ontology design, or semantic modeling in complex domains Graph databases, graph query languages, or graph ML techniques Hybrid systems combining structured reasoning with LLM-based approaches Entity resolution, schema alignment, or knowledge fusion at scale AI systems requiring explainability, auditability, or lineage tracking Experience building AI systems in regulated or high-stakes domains (finance, healthcare, legal, government) MLOps, evaluation infrastructure, or long-running AI services operating at scale What You'll Love Owning the technical direction of real AI systems that make it into production Solving hard, ambiguous problems where architecture and execution matter equally Leading through hands-on building, not layers of process Working in an environment that values shipping, learning, and iteration over perfection Having the latitude to shape both systems and how teams build them About Us We are an AI-first company, and we mean that literally. AI is not a feature we bolt on. It's not a marketing layer. It's not a roadmap experiment. It is the foundation of how we design, build, and operate. We are building systems where machines do what machines do best: pattern recognition, synthesis, analysis at scale. As well as what humans do what humans do best: judgment, context, trust, and accountability. That means rethinking workflows from the ground up. Not "how do we add AI to this process?" but "how should this process exist in a machine-augmented world?" We care deeply about shipping real systems that work in production. In regulated environments. With real customers. At scale. If you're excited to help invent the next way software is built and deployed, and to do it alongside a team of deeply pragmatic, AI-obsessed builders, we'd love to talk. We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. Principal DevOps Engineer
Ursa Major Berthoud, Colorado
Job Description Job Description The future of aerospace and defense starts here. Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. Responsibilities: Platform Architecture & Developer Experience Lead the research, design, and continuous improvement of platform infrastructure, software deployment, and Developer Experience (DX) across the enterprise. Decompose complex infrastructure problems into maintainable systems; author clear technical design documents and lead cross-functional teams through execution. Act as a strategic connector between Software Engineering, IT, and Networking to unify tooling, share infrastructure patterns, and eliminate operational silos. Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), GitOps & High Availability (HA) Advance our declarative Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and GitOps practices (using Terraform, Helm, and ArgoCD/Flux) to deliver fully automated, drift-free application lifecycles across Azure GovCloud and AWS GovCloud. Extend containerization and orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker) beyond cloud environments into on-premise test benches, shop-floor PCs, and edge manufacturing hardware in alignment with our CMMC Level 2 hybrid strategy. Own Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) architecture-maintaining automated backup and failover capabilities that keep critical system recovery times measured in minutes, not days. DevSecOps & AI Pipeline Integration Partner with Cybersecurity and Zero-Trust teams to integrate automated vulnerability scanning, secrets management, and policy-as-code guardrails directly into CI/CD workflows without introducing developer friction. Architect and support automated pipelines for hosted and private AI models, enabling software and engineering teams to leverage high-throughput AI capabilities safely within our secure compliance boundary. Maintain continuous telemetry, metrics, and alerting frameworks (Prometheus, Grafana) to give engineers real-time visibility into application performance and pipeline health. Leadership, Mentorship & Impact Frame all technical initiatives in terms of maximum impact on overall business health, execution speed, and system reliability. Mentor and elevate engineers across the software and IT organizations, fostering a culture of analytical, value-driven problem-solving. Function as a top-level technical decision-maker, managing high-ambiguity challenges with high autonomy while maintaining psychological safety and clear standards of excellence Minimum Qualifications: 8+ years of professional DevOps, SRE, or Infrastructure/Platform Engineering experience, with a proven track record of principal-level technical leadership and system architecture. Hands-on mastery of Azure GovCloud and/or AWS GovCloud environments, with deep expertise in VPC networking, IAM, and cloud-native security controls. Advanced proficiency in Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and continuous delivery via GitOps patterns (ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, or Flux). Direct experience architecting high-availability systems, automated DR solutions, and telemetry suites (Prometheus, Grafana). Practical experience configuring automated container/code and centralized secrets management (AWS/Azure Key Vaults, HashiCorp Vault). Experience automating, deploying, or supporting hosted AI model integrations within production CI/CD pipelines. A proactive problem solver who builds trust across teams, rejects black-and-white thinking, and focuses on enabling business outcomes. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with NIST SP 800-171 / CMMC Level 2 compliance standards and securing CUI data flows. Experience with Artifactory, SonarQube, Open Policy Agent (OPA), Kyverno, or automated Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) tooling. Experience automating physical hardware, edge nodes, or shop-floor environments using Packer, Ansible, K3s, or Rancher. Experience orchestrating self-hosted or private AI model execution frameworks. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance. Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $175,000 - $215,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Staff Machine Learning Engineer - Vision-Language Foundation Models
Waymo Mountain View, California
Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver-The World's Most Experienced Driver -to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo's fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states. The Team & Mission: In the Oracle Perception team, our mission is to build the ultimate cognitive engine for autonomous driving. We are pioneering the use of large multimodal foundation models (e.g., Gemini) to build a powerful offboard reasoning and data flywheel system. We are moving beyond traditional perception to true scene understanding and driving actions-building offboard models that can comprehend complex driving problems, predict object/scene dynamics, and deduce driving paths with logical rationale. Our core focus is advancing the VLM foundation itself. By pushing the boundaries of multimodal pre-training and state-of-the-art post-training (SFT, RL) , we are creating models capable of rich, reasoning-based autolabeling at a massive scale. This closed-loop data engine directly powers the training and evolution of Waymo's real-time onboard models. If you are passionate about defining VLM training recipes, scaling laws, and unlocking complex reasoning via RL, this is your opportunity to redefine the foundation of autonomous driving. In this hybrid role, you will report to a Senior Staff Technical Lead Manager. You Will: Drive Pre-training & Domain Adaptation: Lead the technical strategy for curating and constructing massive-scale, high-quality multimodal pre-training datasets. Define data mixture strategies to instill deep, Waymo-specific driving intuition and physics-grounded understanding into foundation models without catastrophic forgetting. Lead Post-Training & Reasoning Enhancement: Design and implement state-of-the-art fine-tuning (SFT) and Reinforcement Learning (RLHF/RLAIF, DPO/GRPO/PPO) pipelines. Drastically improve the model's instruction-following and complex reasoning capabilities (e.g., Chain-of-Thought, spatial-temporal reasoning, and driving rationale prediction). Pioneer the VLM Data Flywheel: Architect the highly scalable inference and evaluation pipelines that leverage these trained Gemini-class models to autonomously source, sample, and autolabel critical edge cases, directly accelerating the onboard perception models. Define Training Recipes & Scaling Laws: Conduct rigorous ablation studies to optimize model architectures, token budgets, and loss functions. Establish best practices for scaling multimodal training efficiently on large GPU/TPU clusters. Drive Cross-Functional AI Strategy: Act as the principal technical visionary across ML Infra, Perception, Behavior, and AI Foundation teams. Drive consensus on the data flywheel architecture and embed VLM reasoning capabilities seamlessly into the broader autonomous vehicle stack. Provide Staff-Level Technical Leadership: Own the long-term technical roadmap for foundation model development. Mentor senior engineers, lead rigorous design reviews, and establish standard-setting engineering practices from advanced prototyping to production deployment. You Have: Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, ML, or a related technical field. 8+ years of hands-on experience designing, training, and scaling deep learning models, with at least 3+ years focused deeply on training Large Language Models (LLMs) or Vision-Language Models (VLMs) . Proven expertise in the full lifecycle of Foundation Models: from pre-training data curation (interleaved formats, tokenization) and distributed training to advanced post-training techniques. Expert-level understanding of training infrastructure and distributed paradigms (e.g., FSDP, Megatron, JAX/Pax) required for training massive models reliably. Expert-level software engineering fundamentals using Python, PyTorch, or JAX, with a track record of building reliable, highly scalable ML systems. Proven ability to operate with high ambiguity, define technical roadmaps, and drive complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives across multiple teams in a fast-paced environment. We Prefer: PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field. Strong publication record in top-tier AI venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR) focusing on foundation models, large-scale training, reinforcement learning, or reasoning. Deep experience with advanced Reinforcement Learning paradigms applied to language or vision tasks ( focusing on improving System 2 thinking, logical deduction, and model alignment ). Demonstrated experience in Data Engineering for Foundation Models at the scale of billions/trillions of tokens (e.g., deduplication, quality filtering, synthetic data generation). Familiarity with the systemic challenges of multimodal perception in robotics or autonomous driving (e.g., 3D scene understanding, trajectory prediction). A proven track record of Staff-level impact: influencing product direction, pioneering zero-to-one ML architectures, and multiplying team efficiency through technical leadership.
