TECHNICIAN - SR. TECHNICIAN - Mechanical Testing and Materials 18-01620 Who We Are: The Mechanics and Materials section is seeking a Technician to join a dynamic team of highly specialized staff to perform material testing for aerospace, defense, and energy applications. Significant growth opportunities are available with this position. By joining our team, you will receive an additional $500 in your first paycheck, minus taxes. Objectives of this Role: Assist senior technicians and technical staff in the execution of mechanical testing of materials. Prepare specimens and equipment for testing, monitoring, and documenting information during testing. Assist team with administrative lab tasks including materials inventory, tool calibrations, and shipping and receiving. Assist in the servicing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical and gas handling equipment. Assist in the installation and wiring of instrumentation. Daily and Monthly Responsibilities: Test specimen measurement and preparation including dimensional measurements, polishing, and labeling. Use Solidworks to create parts and drawings for specimens and lab hardware. Facilitate and oversee the fabrication of test specimens and lab hardware. Test fixture assembly and modification for test execution. Test frame set-up by installing fixtures, test chambers, instrumentation, and specimens. Data logging and entry by entering data into log sheets and computer files, basic data reduction, and communication of results. General maintenance and repair of lab equipment and hardware including hydraulic systems and chillers. Support operations of high-pressure hydrogen gas test systems. Requirements: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. 2+ years: Experience with standard mechanical tools and measurement devices such as calipers. 2+: Hands-on skills to assemble test fixtures and mechanical systems using tools and wrenches. Basic computer skills including understanding of Microsoft Excel and Word. Strong communication skills and must be able to understand written/verbal instruction and use email for communication. A valid/clear driver's license is required. Special Requirements: Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section. Objectives of this Role: Develop and manage comprehensive proposals, schedules, and test plans for a wide variety of environmental testing projects with several overlapping at a time. Design custom tests and oversee custom and standard test execution, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards and customer requirements. Communicate effectively with technicians and customers, resolving issues and providing updates. Create high quality detailed test reports and analysis, leveraging tools like ANSYS for analysis and SolidWorks for design work. Foster collaboration within the team to deliver innovative and high-quality testing solutions. Daily and Monthly Responsibilities: Design and implement unique testing methodologies tailored to customer needs, often focusing on test standards such as UL, UN, IEC, MIL-STD, and ASTM. Draft, manage, and deliver testing proposals, ensuring alignment with customer specifications and industry standards. Prepare and present detailed test reports and lead continuous improvement initiatives. Monitor and manage test execution, budget, and scope, coordinating with technicians and addressing any issues that arise. Communicate proactively with customers about test progress, results, and troubleshooting measures. Perform business development activities for testing area of focus. Requirements: Requires a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Industrial Engineering or similar engineering degree field with related experience. 5+ years: Experience with technical writing and communication. Proficient in writing clear proposals and test reports. Strong verbal skills to communicate with customers. 1-5 years: Project management and testing familiarity. Able to manage test projects, execute projects, and troubleshoot issues. Able to use the tools associated with Project Management effectively. Knowledge of and operation under quality systems is preferred. 5+ years: Skilled in validating test data using tools like LABVIEW, MATLAB, or Excel. Ensures accuracy in test results. Knowledge of selecting test instrumentation and applying standards like MIL-STD-810 and IEC 60068. 5+ years: Designing, running, validating, or overseeing at least one (or a combination) of the following tests: Vibration, Mechanical Shock, Seismic, Thermal, Temperature Cycle, Altitude, Weathering / Corrosion, and Water Ingress. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
