A day in the life This is a Software Development Manager role in the Leo Payload Software organization, responsible for driving the research & development, deployment and operation of Leo Payload. Our software drives the hardware, firmware and networking on the satellite to manage all radio communications between satellites and the ground gateways and customer terminals, and also provides device drivers and services for managing redundancy, operational and thermal state of the payload. You will own the roadmap and mission for software and work with your customers to refine requirements, understand constraints, hire & grow your team and iteratively deliver value to our customers. About the team Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. The Leo Payload software team is responsible for life-cycle management of RF links, and transporting customer data and Leo management/control traffic over RF & Optical links in the Leo system. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - 3+ years of engineering team management experience - 10+ years of engineering experience - Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations - Experience partnering with product or program management teams - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience - 5+ years of industry experience with Telecom, Data Plane networking, distributed systems or similar PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy - Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers - Experience with telecom systems - wireless, wireline, optical, satellite. Experience with high performance data networking on embedded platforms. Experience with silicon based forwarding fabrics a plus.
