About the role

We are looking for a new Linux systems engineer for our Cyber Security Team.

You will be part of a team responsible for the maintenance, operation, development and implementation of technologies, systems and networks as the team modernises and automates both new and existing systems and services. You will ensure that multiple teams in the cyber security division and wider divisions across the company are supported with the relevant infrastructure and systems for current and future business needs.

The Cyber security division consists of a number of teams, including the Security Operations Centre, professional services and Infrastructure and critical services. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining the infrastructure and systems that support Jisc's security services and teams enabling the security of Jisc's Janet network: a high-speed network for the UK research and education community.

About you

We're ideally looking for someone with:

  • Strong background in Linux server administration.
  • Deploying, Integrating and administering a wide variety of proprietary and open source systems.
  • Administering a variety of common web server technologies (including MySQL, PostgreSQL, PHP, Ruby, Java, Python).
  • Automating systems and processes, building in resilience.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and manage resources within a collaborative team-based environment.
  • Fluency in one or more scripting languages, such as Python.

This role will be based in Harwell.
