We seek a highly motivated and experienced Cyber Security & Networks Manager to join our team. Stevenage Borough Council are a leading local authority in Cyber Security in the UK and pilot cyber security standards for The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC). Accountable for Cyber security, you will identify and ensure the security of the council’s IT Applications and Digital Solutions. You will lead in evaluating new and existing projects, software and hardware products, and vendors, including examining vendor contracts and terms of service. You will support teams across the council to develop their understanding of security cyber risks. You will manage a small team of two Senior Network and Security Engineers
You will take the lead on cyber security and network for the Shared IT service, which supports over 1,000 users across Stevenage Borough Council and East Herts District Council and will put in place controls over security systems, such as firewalls, data protection controls, patching, encryption, vulnerability scanning and penetration testing.
You will be responsible for achieving compliance with Cyber Essentials Plus, Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF) and Public Sector Network (PSN) and related government frameworks, including those of the National Cyber Security Centre, the Information Commissioners Office (ICO)

We want you to relish in the provision of a first class service to our customers and be able to communicate at all levels to ensure understanding. Either working alone or part of the team, we want you to come up with solutions that ensure business continuity or can add substance to new or on-going projects or products. Technical Skills : In depth knowledge of TCP/IP networks, IP Protocols and exposure to all layers of the OSI model. Strong experience of routing protocols, tunneling protocols and Experience of working with complex Networks, following best practices and strict security guidelines Maintain performance of networks using appropriate Network Monitoring systems or vendor tools Previous demonstrable management of maintaining wide area networks. In-Depth Networking experience including configuring multiple vendor firewalls, enterprise routers and datacentre switches. Network configuration and storage configurations for HPC Experience of working with common operating systems such as Windows Server, Linux/RHEL. Server hardware/blade enclosure configuration experience Exposure to Storage Area Networks, Virtualization products such as VMWare ESXi and VDI solutions with accelerated storage. Necessary Experience/Qualifications Specification: Certified to a Cisco CCNA or CCNP Datacentre standard, with at least 6 years experience working in complex network environments. Desirable: Experience of EVPN-VXLAN frameworks Previous exposure to Load Balancing. The successful applicant should be technically competent, have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be familiar with the data centre environment. This is a permanent full-time position working Monday - Friday, 08:00 - 16:00 and also working as part of the shared on call rota to provide the required 24/7 on-site support. The successful candidate must either already hold or be able to obtain SC security clearance. For this reason, we are only able to progress with applications from British nationals.
