The Role
We have an exciting opportunity at PML for an individual with skills in Linux system administration to join the PML’s Digital Innovation and Marine Autonomy (DIMA) group. The role provides a business critical link between scientists, PML Applications (commercial work) and our IT Group to support the Linux computing infrastructure as it continues to evolve, underpinning PML science in multiple areas and across all levels. This ranges from data generation, (storage technologies and data management), processing and analysis (high performance computing and technologies such as JupyterHub), to making visual outputs for end users (web technologies and virtualisation) to increase the reach and impact of PML science.
About You
You will enjoy working with others to help deliver a modern and reliable digital infrastructure to underpin the world leading research carried out at PML. You will understand the importance of stability from existing infrastructure but will also be keen to learn and try new technologies. You will have experience of administering Linux systems, ideally using Ubuntu, and will be able to make use of scripts and common tools such as ansible to manage this. You will understand the importance of taking a proactive approach to identify and resolve and problems and will be able to make use of monitoring software (e.g., Nagios, Grafana) to accomplish this. You will understand best practices in cybersecurity and be able to apply these.

Maintain our storage infrastructure to ensure data is distributed across servers based on existing capacity and projected changes in data volumes. This includes regular data moves and liaising with stakeholders to ensure data is backed up and archiving projects are completes as needed.
Monitor high performance computing infrastructure to identify and resolve problems either on their own or by working with IT (depending on the nature of the problem).
Act of a point of contact between scientists and IT to answer questions, help identify solutions and provide training.
Work with the data architect to maintain and develop web infrastructure used to provide existing and planned data search and visualisation services.
Manage the NEODAAS GPU cluster (MAGEO), including liaising with IT, vendors and system users.

DIMA is a pioneering digital science group dedicated to advancing PML’s world-class and cutting-edge environmental research through the utilisation of state-of-the-art digital and autonomous technologies. Main Responsibilities
Database Management – manage, maintain and operate the Old Reptonian and Repton Foundation database. Ensure that the database is developed, updated and run according to current data security protocols. Ensure that back-up and recovery processes are fit for purpose. Establish ‘query/report request’ protocols.
Data Quality Assurance – work through the School’s electronic and hard copy records to ensure that data held is accurate, relevant, up to date and lawful.
Database Enhancement – work with software developers/providers to ensure the database is fit for purpose, accurate, accessible and secure. Liaise with developers on an ongoing basis to design, commission, install and implement new features, integrations and apps – or customise existing – and troubleshoot and solve issues.
Data Importing – ensure that annual bulk data imports (of Upper Sixth records) are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
Capacity Planning – analyse database usage patterns/trends to identify resource and upgrade requirements. Make recommendations as appropriate.
Database User Management – establish the needs and training requirements of end-users. Manage and monitor appropriate permissions and access levels and ensure data security and integrity. Provide ongoing training and support to approved users, where required.
Research – support the Development Director and Alumni Relations Manager in identifying donor prospects, mentors, speakers, case studies etc and generating guest profiles for events and fundraising purposes.
Reporting and Analytics – produce accurate data, reports and performance metrics to aid in event planning, audience profiling and donor, campaign and event analysis.
Financial Reconciliation – support Development Director in gift processing through recording and tracking donations, and reconciling with Finance Department.
Data Privacy Compliance –implement a robust process to ensure Data Protection Law 2018, UK GDPR and PECR regulations are adhered to with regard to all stored data and bulk data migrations.
Other Duties – any other reasonable duties as requested by the Line Manager.

Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will have:
Essential
Knowledge of SQL
Knowledge of Oracle, MySQL, Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, Potentiality or similar RDBMS, preferably used within the education or charities sector
The technical know-how and ability to manage a database, identify gaps both in data quality and database functionality, and propose and implement workable solutions
The perseverance and attention to detail to work through historical electronic and hard copy records and update contacts accordingly to ensure data integrity

Database Management – manage, maintain and operate the Old Reptonian and Repton Foundation database. Ensure that the database is developed, updated and run according to current data security protocols. Ensure that back-up and recovery processes are fit for purpose. Data Quality Assurance – work through the School’s electronic and hard copy records to ensure that data held is accurate, relevant, up to date and lawful.
Database Enhancement – work with software developers/providers to ensure the database is fit for purpose, accurate, accessible and secure. Liaise with developers on an ongoing basis to design, commission, install and implement new features, integrations and apps – or customise existing – and troubleshoot and solve issues.
Data Importing – ensure that annual bulk data imports (of Upper Sixth records) are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
Capacity Planning – analyse database usage patterns/trends to identify resource and upgrade requirements. Make recommendations as appropriate.
Database User Management – establish the needs and training requirements of end-users. Manage and monitor appropriate permissions and access levels and ensure data security and integrity. Provide ongoing training and support to approved users, where required.
Research – support the Development Director and Alumni Relations Manager in identifying donor prospects, mentors, speakers, case studies etc and generating guest profiles for events and fundraising purposes.
Reporting and Analytics – produce accurate data, reports and performance metrics to aid in event planning, audience profiling and donor, campaign and event analysis.
Financial Reconciliation – support Development Director in gift processing through recording and tracking donations, and reconciling with Finance Department.
Data Privacy Compliance –implement a robust process to ensure Data Protection Law 2018, UK GDPR and PECR regulations are adhered to with regard to all stored data and bulk data migrations.
Other Duties – any other reasonable duties as requested by the Line Manager.

We are looking for an expert in digital B2C UX to help the business service its customers online as it evolves and expands its product offering in line with ever changing customer needs and market forces. You will provide UX expertise to a cross functional web site Product team of a Business Analyst, Product Owner, Conversion Rate Optimisation Specialist and Web Developers. You will help iteratively evolve and improve the UX of our responsive websites as we look to scale up our business. Our websites are developed and maintained by internal teams. We need a great communicator, with exceptional design skills, someone with energy who embraces change plus is prepared to go that extra mile to achieve business objectives. The UX Designer would liaise with internal stakeholders to guarantee a coherent and brand aligned web site design and user experience. Essential Skills and Experience: UX design in B2C Digital for a large business that sells experiences. Expertise with designing customer journeys and improving usability. Designing responsive UX for ecommerce concepts like product search, displaying product information, online payments and check out journey, user accounts and post-sale functionality. Proven track record delivering superb UX, strong portfolio of past achievement. Working using agile processes Running design workshops, retrospectives, a fail-fast approach, iterative and incremental change Data driven decision making. Conducting user research and user testing Utilising data from multi variant testing Accessing and using analytics data Excellent communication, listening and presentation skills including taking ownership. Strong technical design knowledge and skills Responsive web technologies like HTML, CSS, Javascript, mock-up and wireframe tools, user journey modelling tools, design tools Honours degree in Design Hybrid (2 days in office and 3 from home)
