NET/SQL Developer Based in Folkestone Salary - £38k A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an IT Developer to join a well-established, insurance market leader who offer a progressive and supportive environment to work in. Our clients Group Customer Database team work with stakeholders from across the business and related third parties to manage the customer into a single customer view and transactional data. The team manage the database and related software to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data is maintained then republish this data out to business consumers through web services. In addition, we are responsible for a number of applications e.g. customer maintenance, campaign management, trigger campaign management etc. The current platform is DB2 (AS400) and we have started the transition of moving the database to SQL Server supported by a .net platform with c# as the main coding language. As a developer you must be competent in using Microsoft's technology to design, develop and implement these applications to support the migration of the Group Customer Database. Using their programming skills, developers are able to integrate their applications with other technologies and deliver specifications as requested by stakeholders. This combined with the ability to be able to independently manage their allocated IT development projects from design to release. Flexibility is essential, as is the ability to adapt with the client's changing needs. Responsibilities * Work with Business Analyst, Tech Architect and business stakeholders to understand technical requirements. * Detailed analysis of user requirements for new systems and the continued maintenance/enhancement of current systems. Provide advice where alternative solutions exist. * Provision of estimates for fixes/enhancements/new systems requested by the business. * Produce Functional Specifications using jargon free language which can be understood by users. Give formal presentations where appropriate. * Produce Technical Specifications where appropriate. * Systems design. * Programming in relevant languages as appropriate with adherence to best practice in security, usability and accessibility. * Unit testing, system testing and user training. Assist users with their acceptance testing. * Ensure that all work undertaken has been documented on the correct forms with authorising signatures in place before putting the fix/enhancement/new system forward for application to the 'live' environment. * There will be project work to complete, which should be done in a professional manner. * Manage any risks or controls delegated to this position as detailed in the relevant risk registers, in line with the business's risk policy Knowledge and Experience preferred: A strong understanding of and experience with IT development lifecycle. Previous experience in a web development role. Relevant programming knowledge. Modern .NET development approach, covering MVC (C#.NET) and TDD Thorough understanding of HTML, CSS and client-side scripting frameworks Oracle PL/SQL and/or SQL Server T-SQL/SSIS/DTS would be advantageous Good analytical, systems and design skills. Education and Qualifications preferred: Understanding of web security, usability, accessibility and general web standards.
