You will support teams across the council to develop their understanding of security cyber risks. You will manage a small team of two Senior Network and Security Engineers
You will take the lead on cyber security and network for the Shared IT service, which supports over 1,000 users across Stevenage Borough Council and East Herts District Council and will put in place controls over security systems, such as firewalls, data protection controls, patching, encryption, vulnerability scanning and penetration testing.
You will be responsible for achieving compliance with Cyber Essentials Plus, Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF) and Public Sector Network (PSN) and related government frameworks, including those of the National Cyber Security Centre, the Information Commissioners Office (ICO)

Key Responsibilities: Lead the design and implementation of software solutions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance. Supporting / enhancing our Decisioning API (Python) and working on several API integrations with 3rd party services using C#. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate business requirements into technical specifications. Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code using best practices and industry standards. Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members. Troubleshoot and debug issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions. Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends, advocating for the adoption of new tools and techniques where appropriate. Mentor junior engineers, sharing knowledge and promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience. 5+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on web applications. Strong proficiency C# / .Net / Python / SQL / Azure Experience with modern web development frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js). Solid understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and best practices. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
